Social Media: From One Moment to a Million

Social media has taken over the world as the main form of communication over the past several years. From Facebook to Vine to twitter to Instagram, social media has impacted personal lives, the world of business, and the delivery of world news. Social media is not a fad, but the evolution of how the world stays connected.

Close your eyes for a moment, and picture this; It was a busy morning which consisted of waking up late, getting ready for work, making the kids lunches, and getting them off to school. You already leave for work well behind schedule, and you come to a halt on the Highway 401. It is uncommon for you to listen to news radio while driving, therefore you sit and angrily accept the fact that you’re going to be very late for work and could have done nothing to avoid this mess. However, the mess could have been avoided with thanks to the CP24 Twitter account. A quick look at the CP24 Twitter account before leaving for work can relay information such as traffic, accidents, and other time consuming events.

Social media has done far more than connect people. The evolvement of social media over the past few years has dramatically affected the business industry for areas such as advertising. Not more than a decade ago, advertising was limited to television commercials, billboards, and print advertisements. Now, the promotion of companies’ goods and services is practically inescapable. There is room for advertising to swarm social media users through applications such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook; the list is endless.  The best part about this affected business area is that these forms of promotion become interactive and all- consuming.

The link created by social media is a never-ending train. Any form of news can become viral any minute, with or without consent. Once created, any post on social media is readily available for the world to see- and the extinction is nearly impossible.

  1. Social media is definitely not a fad. With your example provided, i can certainly say that is social media have great benefits of reducing time spent on an activity. Viewing a quick post on site is much faster than waiting to hear it on the news. The speed of the posts on social media sites is incredible. However, this can lead to negative posts being spread to the world. Think about that.
